Solar Flare Services Is 5 Years Old
I'm thrilled to announce that our consultancy has just turned 5 years old! It's been an incredible journey, and I'm so proud of all that we've achieved, especially considering the challenges we faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When we started out, we set out to provide top-notch consulting services to help businesses thrive and grow. And over the past five years, we've worked with some amazing clients, helping them to tackle complex challenges and achieve their goals.
Three years ago was especially challenging for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted businesses in ways that we never could have imagined. However, I'm proud to say that we weathered the storm, thanks to resilience and hard work and the support of our clients.
As we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we also celebrate the reality of AI. Over the past five years, AI has gone from a buzzword to a reality that's transforming how businesses operate. We are already using AI in our business to improve the quality of our outputs.
I want to take a moment to thank our clients for entrusting us with their businesses during these challenging times. Without you, none of this would be possible. I would also like to thank the amazing colleagues I have worked with in the last 5 years - you've made it fun, interesting and engaging.
Looking back on the past five years, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunities we've had, the people we've met, and the impact we've made. And I'm excited to see what the next five years will bring.

Award Winning Capability Enhancement.
It's been a great December for one of our clients and a project we delivered for them working with Team Animation. Award-winning work recognised by AirMic.

Digital Inclusion: Primary Research.
Solar Flare undertook desktop research for Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway (TSDG), in late 2020, to investigate the extent of digital exclusion in the region.
A key finding was that there was no primary research about digital exclusion for Dumfries and Galloway. TSDG are now leading a new project to create that primary research, and Solar Flare have been delighted to contribute to the project.

Delivering For The Third Sector.
We are all aware that the Covid-19 pandemic has hit all parts of our society, Solar Flare was no different with a number of our clients cancelling or delaying work. We took the opportunity to work with the Third Sector in our region. Over the last 12 months we've been working with Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway to deliver a number of projects including:
- Collating and contacting the huge number of volunteers who came forward at the start of the pandemic.
- Transferring traditional face-to-face services to an online platform and training staff to use new technology and modify their materials for this format.
- Undertaking research on the impact of digital exclusion, taking into account the move to online working and support service delivery e.g. NHS online consultations.
- Project managing the use of funding to ensure the vulnerable gained devices and digital connectivity.

What is the Third Sector and Social Enterprise?
The third sector is often, wrongly, considered to be not-for-profit. This is in fact not the case. There are charities operating in the sector totally reliant on funding and donations, however it also includes social enterprises who operate as a business and make profit. The difference is the profits are not distributed to shareholders, but used to support the enterprises social aims. A social enterprise is not the same as a business with a social conscience or good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The social enterprise sector is estimated to be worth approximately £60bn to the UK economy.
